Going Under the Knife

I went to a dentist one day for the usual checkup, and the dentist said that I had a ticking time bomb inside my mouth. My lower right 3rd molar tooth, commonly known as the wisdom tooth, needed removing pronto. What was visible inside my mouth was just the tip of the iceberg, and after doing an X-ray on it I saw that the tooth was actually a fully grown tooth, lying there inside the gum, just right beside the 2nd molar. Anytime soon, the wisdom tooth would push against the second molar and I'd feel the pain. The dentist told me that a simple surgical removal needed to be done.

How the 3rd molar erupts.
How my 3rd molar almost looks like.

I just said okay. I mean, better now when I'm still not working right? The process just tookabout 40 minutes or so, without any pain at all. Alhamdulillah. God bless the local anaesthesias. It was rather hilarious actually to have half of my mouth numbed. I felt as if the right side of my face had swollen like a bloated goldfish and had to check for any reflective surface to assure myself that my face didn't swell that much. I couldn't even rinse my mouth properly.
What will happen if I didn't go under the knife.
I was glad that I didn't even feel the pain at all during the surgery and afterwards. Just some mild discomfort - I could eat again the very night after the surgery, albeit having to chew with my left teeth. My right side of face looked swollen a bit and I could feel the threads used to suture the incision the dentist had done on my gum to extract the wisdom tooth. It's not as bad as I thought it would be - and my brother kept teasing me saying that now, the 'doctor' had to ask him of what to do after the dental surgery, since he had gotten his wisdom tooth removed the previous year. And I got mine removed at the age 25. Lambat bijak kut.

the last time I went to see a dentist, the dentist told me that it seems that my wisdom teeth may not come out after all since there is not enough space for extra teeth.

the title of this post somehow reminds me of cosmetic surgery :)

I hope the inflammation will settle down soon.

Adry - Heheh. Surgery kecik je. Sy buat bunyi dia macam major surgery je. Alhamdulillah tak sempat rasa sakit, ada kawan2 menderita jugak sakit gigi sb dah jadi teruk. Rezeki sy hari tu sb dentist tergerak nak buat xray.

Hafiz - Ahh...misleading jugak title ni. Anyway, if given a choice I rather not submit myself to being operated, but the dentist didn't give me a choice: it's either remove there and then, or remove it later, but both options are about the same thing anyway. The inflammation's subsiding nicely. ANd thank GOD for ibuprofens. :)
